I went out last week looking for a bird. I did not draw a tag but am still thinking about getting an OTC tag for next month. So the point of this outing was to see if I could locate some birds. It started out a little slow, we did see 2 foxes and about a dozen pheasants. I took a box call to see if I could locate them. When we were about to leave we finally heard them at about 8:45. Then they came off the roost, off one canyon rim, they flew for about a half mile across the canyon onto the opposite slope. It was pretty cool to see 20 turkeys several hundred feet above your head.
It seemed they were a little late coming off the roost and not very vocal. I think it might pick up a little bit right now with the warm weather and snow melt. Anyhow, I am going to keep tabs on this flock and decide whether or not to pick up a tag as the opener gets a little closer.
Anyone else been out looking?
